Client care is one of my top priorities and I pride myself on attention to detail in my appointments. All of the little touches that ensure your makeup looks polished are so important – I hate seeing sloppy work. So what are your expectations when booking a Makeup Artist?
Here is a bit about me and some guidance about what you can expect from your appointment…
So I am based in Guisborough and work mostly from my converted home studio. I have a full studio set up at home which means I have access to my full kit as well as studio lighting and lots of natural day light which is so important when doing makeup. I offer a mobile service for bridal bookings and group bookings for occasion makeup but aside from that all appointments are held at mine and I still encourage bridal trials to take place here too so we have plenty of room and light for a comfortable appointment. There is no issue with parking luckily as we have a double drive and free street parking.

- I am very experienced in all skin types and tones, from the palest of porcelain to black skin. I also have a mixed age range in my clientele too. So whether you are 16 or 60 – I can help you achieve the right look for you. Correct product matching is a crucial part of your initial assessment upon arrival. I stock a wide range of products to get the most out of your skin, even if its problematic.
- Be prepared – help me to help you. If you have an idea of makeup you like then bring it with you to show me. I encourage this! It helps me see the result you are aiming for so we can discuss this and obtain realistic results. I will always be honest and advise you if I have concerns over your chosen look. At the end of the day, that’s my job. If I feel the look you have chosen would not flatter you I will let you know and offer my advice on a suitable alternative for you. I want you to feel great and would not be doing you or myself justice by letting you walk out of an appointment not looking the best version of you that you can be. I should also say that you can leave your look entirely down to me… I like to chat with clients first to find out the occasion for the makeup appointment, colours in the outfit to be worn etc and this helps me get an idea of a suitable look for you too.
- Health and Safety is at the crooks of everything I do (and use)… having been employed in health and safety roles in a previous life it has to be important to me. So you can be assured that all of my brushes are cleaned with alcohol between every client, my room is cleaned regularly between clients and I use disposables for varying parts of makeup application to avoid any risk of infection.
- If you have booked your wedding or you have an important event I would definitely recommend a trial run. This is especially important if you have problematic skin or particularly fussy about letting someone else do you makeup 🙂
- Be honest! I ENCOURAGE YOUR FEEDBACK. The last thing I would ever want would be for me to ask you if you’re happy, you say yes and then leave your appointment feeling anxious or upset because you didn’t quite get the look you wanted. I always stress at the beginning and the end of the appointment that you must let me know if you want to make any tweaks. I am not a mind reader and can’t change your makeup if you don’t tell me. You can’t offend me – makeup is very personal. I will always do the application based on your brief/guidance of your expectations but if I haven’t met you before then sometimes its a 2-way communication to make sure those little details that you want me to do are done – you need to tell me. We have all had an appointment at the hairdressers where your fringe is too short, the colour isn’t quite right, the pin up isn’t what you had in your mind yet we still say that we like it when they get the mirror out to show us. Please don’t ever do that with me… tell me if you want to make any small tweaks.
- My preferred makeup style is to enhance your features and beauty – not mask them. I like to look at client features and bring out the best in them. If you want a natural look, I can do that for you…if you want a dramatic look, I can do that for you. Dramatic does not mean drag, layered up, caked on or any other words you might associate with it. Dramatic can be a gorgeous smokey eye and some lashes. It doesn’t have to look like you have thrown your makeup bag in the air and stood underneath it or as my nanna would always say (and I love it) you don’t need to look like you have been smacked in the mouth with a jam tart. Its all about getting the right balance for you.
- Almost there – quality. You can rest assured that I am trained in all aspects of makeup, all genres/styles, I am fully insured and my kit is stocked with branded products such as Charlotte Tilbury, MAC, Urban Decay, Anastasia Beverley Hills etc. Did I mention I also won a national award this year for “Specialist Makeup Artist of the Year” at the English Hair and Beauty Awards? I might have mentioned it once or twice 🙂
- Lastly, while I am open to all suggestions for makeup styles and I might negotiate on a few makeup habits you might have that I don’t agree with… but I will not, I repeat not paste on the awful trend brows. A brow can make or break your look. If you have a full natural brow, lucky you! If you have a thin brow, no problem – we’ll add some definition and tailor the shape to suit your face… but I point blank refuse to put my name to pasted on block brows… just no, not in my gaff!
