I am approaching week 5 of having a broken boiler in my house. During the snow and icy weather, it has not been fun, let me tell you! I feel like I have been living in ye olde days. 4 boiled kettles of water to fill my sink so I can wash up (because I also have a flaky dishwasher). No hot water for a nice bath, instead a 20 second shower (if I’m lucky to get that long) with luke warm water. The central heating has a leak so the house is barely warm. I am sitting by 2 tiny heaters as we speak, plugged in all day long, probably stripping my face of its natural oils, just to keep warm. I am so over it – all this is making me ready to ditch the winter and embrace the spring. The lighter nights, the cherry blossom on the trees and the pretty flowers blooming are ahead of us and I have been immersing myself in the most beautiful floral fragrance in anticipation. Let me introduce you to Clean Beauty Collective.
Who is Clean Beauty Collective and why choose their fragrance?
Clean Beauty Collective is an eco-conscious beauty brand, creating exquisite scents the natural way. Using responsibly sourced sustainable ingredients and never testing on animals, they prioritise being kind to the planet as well as helping communities with funding so that they can sustain an income.
Last autumn, I was kindly gifted a bottle of Clean Reserve Avant Garden Collection in Hemp and Ginger. I could smell the spicy scent before even taking the lid off. I knew immediately that this was right up my street – with delicious top notes of Bergamot and Ginger. My personal preference is always to wear a woody/spice nuance scent so this was a perfect fit for my taste. There are base notes of Saffron and Our and a hint of cardamom which is sustainably sourced from a Guatemalan partnership programme. The programme helps to provide funding to local farmers working on reforestation projects. The Elemi ingredient (an aromatic resin) is also sourced via a partnership in the Philippines, who support local farmers. How amazing is that? Directly making a positive difference to those who need help.
Start educating yourself on which ingredients are in your beauty products. Are they toxic free?
Learning about where and how our beauty products are produced is something we are all becoming more conscious of. As a beauty expert, I am more aware of using products that are ethically produced. I try to keep my makeup kit and beauty stash as organically “clean” as possible.
The new Lush Fleur fragrance launches this April and I was super excited to receive a gifted bottle to try recently. Although floral fragrances usually send me running in the opposite direction (I blame excessive use of Anais Anais in 1996 – and I didn’t even like it then!), Lush Fleur smells light and clean. Although this is essentially a floral inspired fragrance the fruity tones of mandarin and raspberry add a freshness, complimenting the Jasmine, Gardenia and Damask Rose tones. The base notes include vanilla, musk, amber and moss.
On paper, I really shouldn’t like this fragrance as I am not too keen on vanilla either but somehow, it all blends together without it feeling too floral. The Damask Rose ingredient is harvested in Turkey by farmers. There is a long standing history of harvesting this flower using traditional production methods – so this allows the farmers to grow their own economy too.
Supporting the planet – choose sustainability
Clean Beauty Collective is proudly sponsoring EarthDay.Org and the Protect Our Species campaign for the second year. Helping to protect the planet and it’s butterflies. Butterflies are pollinators and there is a big decline in all pollinator populations. This is due to the use pesticides and habitat loss.
Lush Fleur will be available from April 2021, in limited edition butterfly packaging to raise awareness for the protection of butterflies.
Bonus features
A couple of extra things to “note” if you pardon the perfume pun…
Clean Reserve fragrances allow you to personalise your own signature fragrance by layering their fragrances. Clean Reserve fragrances are included in the Perfume Society fragrance box which are specifically designed for layering fragrances. If you are keen on creating a bespoke fragrance you can find out more about those here.
The other important factor is that it was long lasting on my skin. I felt little need to top up with a fresh spritz even after wearing it for around 6 hours. Gone are the days where floral perfumes remind me of the drawer liners from the 80s.
You can find a full range of Clean Reserve fragrances here…
