After seeing photographs taken at Picture House Portraits I decided to book in for a shoot with owner/photographer Andrew Fowler. The studio is most known for vintage inspired photography (which I love) however I was keen to add a bit of a twist to the shoot as Halloween was approaching and though it would be fun to seize the opportunity for something a little “dark”…
I had a costume in mind which I bought last Halloween (a white blood stained corset and tutu)… In my head I had a vision of Miss Haversham style character…so I started planning to bring it all together. I enlisted the help of super talented hairdresser Lisa Douglas from LJ Hair (http://ljhair.co.uk/), model Amy Coulson and fabulous bespoke headpiece creative Luna Lily (http://www.luna-lily.co.uk/). Creating a look on Amy was such fun… the hair brief was “Crazy bridal”… and Rachel Knox of Luna Lily created several headpieces for use during the shots… one being a gothic dark floral fascinator with a skeletal hand and others were floral headbands in gorgeous Halloween-inspired colours with skulls on!
So once the look was created we set off for Picture House Portraits, based in Kirby Stephen, Cumbria. I was so excited to see the place and it didn’t disappoint! Everything in this place is retro! Racks of amazing original vintage clothes and props on the ground floor and the basement was a ‘set’ in the style of someone’s home (vintage style) complete with a living room, a kitchen and a bathroom all set up for photoshoots. Here are some images taken behind the scenes….
Working with Andrew for the first time was very easy… we shared our ideas of what we wanted to achieve in terms of end results and definitely had some laughs along the way. He was very personable, great sense of humour and professional.
I would definitely recommend this studio to anyone looking for something different, interested in vintage/retro items and with the added bonus of superb quality photographs to treasure. I’ll be back soon!
