Thinking of booking a tailored makeup lesson?
For some women, applying makeup is an every day routine. Whether its just mascara and a lippy or a full face. There is no denying that makeup makes women feel more confident but I speak to so many women who shy away from wearing makeup and when I ask them why, the answer is pretty much always the same….because they don’t know how to do it. I have a solution – a tailored makeup lesson!
Stuck in a rut? Are you needing help to learn how to apply your makeup?
I have found a growing trend in women approaching me for makeup lessons – ideal for those who love makeup and just want to learn some techniques for improving their application and even better for those who are scared of makeup because they are “clueless” which is often the expression used.
Are you an aspiring Makeup Artist?
So I should start off by saying my makeup lessons are not for aspiring makeup artists…in all honesty, a master class alone is not suitable for those wanting to do professional makeup. There is so much to learn in terms of applying makeup professionally… you will not learn enough and sustain a successful career by going a master class. Professional makeup application is not just about creating nice eyes on a client. Its about learning skin types, matching products to skin types, product knowledge, learning different makeup styles to have the confidence to create a natural bride through to an evening look that isn’t just an Instagram trend look – believe me, not all clients want this look, especially more mature clients. My advice to aspiring Makeup Artists, be versatile, original and invest in great training!
Bring your makeup bag
So, I have a very personal approach to my makeup lessons. The usual format we follow is I ask the client to bring their own makeup bag with them… this isn’t so I can judge what is being used, laugh at the 10 year old crusty mascara that everyone has lurking at the bottom of the bag…. I like to look at the products to see what is being used, for what and ideally I want to show the client that some products can be used for multi purposes… so we have a rummage through products, make 2 piles…TO KEEP, TO DISPOSE 🙂
The makeup lesson is then spent discussing current makeup routines and looking at the client face shape, skin type and eye shape etc. This is how we determine a look that flatters and is the basis for all makeup application.
Learn a day look and a night look
So for the rest of the makeup lesson, its all about creating a wearable day time look that’s suitable for the client… going through the full process of the application, learning tips and tricks to get longevity out of the makeup and making notes of the process. So once the day time look is completed its then time to add small easy changes to go from day time to a glamourous evening look, perfect for nights out, functions, special events etc.
Unbiased product recommendations
During the course of the makeup lesson, I try to incorporate as much of the clients own makeup bag as possible (if suitable) however I do of course make products recommendations too (and I always offer a budget and more luxurious product recommendation).
Feedback/Testimonials from previous makeup lesson clients
I have had great feedback from my makeup lessons – particularly as they are tailored for each individual. Some quotes from recent clients following lessons,
“Thank you Gemma. Thoroughly enjoyed my time with you yesterday. I left feeling like a new woman xxx”
“Had a makeup 1:1 with Gemma yesterday. I couldn’t be happier. Gemma explained everything perfectly and I learned so much. She made me feel at ease and I came away feeling amazing. Highly recommended if you have no clue about makeup like me. Thanks Gemma x”
“Treated my mum to a makeup lesson for her birthday. Couldn’t thank Gemma enough for the session. She loved every minute of it and has given her some amazing tricks of the trade! Thank you again!”
So if you are interested in having a makeup lesson I offer 1:1’s at my home studio but I can do larger groups for parties, events etc.
