A few months ago I had a conversation with Rachel Knox – Owner of Luna Lily regarding doing a creative collaboration to advertise her business and utilising my creative makeupskills to add some excitement to the photos… So finally after lots of planning, the photoshoot took place on 13th February 2016 and we couldn’t be more delighted!
Luna Lily creates unique pieces such as flower crowns, fascinators, head bands and creative statement headpieces using a variety of materials – anything from feathers, lace, leather to flowers, trinkets and vintage jewellery. She has produced pieces for pin up retro photoshoots, weddings and theatrical pieces as well as every day ‘wearable’ items.
Rachel had 2 new pieces that she wanted to showcase. The first one the very grand ‘Valkyrie’ piece. The concept for makeup and costume was “bold”, “warrior” and “medieval”. The statement piece was made up of pheasant feather wings, a leather headband and studs and chains. Model Amy also created her costume. Her bodice was handmade as was the fuscia top worn by other model Lottie. Amy has her own business called Maimy, making bespoke garments.
Lottie modelled a very impressive skull rose headpiece – so her makeup consisted of a very pale base, Mac Sushi Flower on her eyes finished off with bold winged liner and a stunning purple/pink ombre lip.
Hair was styled by the very talented Kim Calvert-Smith who finished each look perfectly.
The shoot took place at Whortlon Castle, near Swainby. It is a ruined medieval castle built in the early 1th century.
The photography was carried out by Skelton-based photographer Ann Parker. Ann specialises in portrait photography but I have worked with Ann on many creative photoshoots and her expertise and creative flair always produces excellent results.
We all thoroughly enjoyed this collaboration and we can’t wait to see the final images from the shoot. We are keeping our fingers crossed that our work schedules allow us to do a summer shoot with some of Luna Lily’s flower crowns.
