Hey, I’m Gemma. I am a multi award winning luxury Makeup Artist, specialising in Bridal clientele and editorial work. I am also the Beauty Editor for British Bride Magazine.
Makeup style
My personal preferred style of makeup is enhancing beauty and features, not masking them. I take pride in looking at facial features, skin tones etc and working with clients to achieve beautiful red carpet looks – helping you feel a million dollars! My style is not a one size fits all approach. Makeup is very personal and my client base is very mixed between young and mature clients, as well as very natural to more dramatic looks. I am very experienced in working with different skin types and matching your skin to appropriate products. I create bespoke looks tailored specifically for individuals whether its fresh faced beauty, vintage or red carpet glamour.
National Award Winner and other achievements
In the last 5 years my career has progressed quickly and I am very proud to have an excellent reputation for delivering quality in my work and client care.
I have won national awards based on both my bridal expertise and all round makeup techniques which include creative, fashion/editorial and beauty work.
At the beginning of 2019, I was asked to be Beauty Editor for a new luxury bridal fashion magazine called British Bride. This was a huge career opportunity and I love that it allows me to write about all aspects of beauty as well as work with beauty brands and other creatives in the industry. I am very proud to have my dream Beauty Editor role as well as working as a busy freelance Makeup Artist.
Also in 2019, I gained agency representation by TTM Management (formally Tyne Tees Models).
After winning my first national award “Freelance Makeup Specialist of the Year” in 2017, I was then offered one of only 200 global places on the highly coveted Makeup: Mastered programme in 2018 where I was mentored by leading fashion industry experts including the Contributing Beauty Editor of Vogue magazine.
This has also led to working with celebrity clientele on various magazine editorials and photo shoots.
My work has been published in various magazines and in summer 2018 I was delighted to have that sought-after Vogue logo stamped on my own work for a beauty campaign I worked on to raise awareness of the impact of animal testing for cosmetic use.
Professional Development is very important to me – I believe it is critical to continue to learn, keep updated on trends and techniques and to grow with the ever changing industry. A highlight for me was learning lip art by the lipqueen herself, Karla Powell. Well, if you’re going to learn something new, you need to learn from the best right?
As a freelance Makeup Artist, my working week varies between bridal, red carpet, editorial and my Beauty Editor work however I also offer 1:1 or small group makeup lessons which are very popular and Microblading (semi permanent brows).
